Cadillac XT4: Retirement Approaching

2024-11-18

Cadillac recently confirmed that the Fairfax plant in Kansas City will cease production of the small XT4 SUV next January.

The Cadillac XT4 entered the market in 2018, opening a new category for the brand. Luxury subcompact SUVs have gained significant popularity over the past decade. The American automaker took a chance with the XT4, which has enjoyed considerable success and remains highly appreciated today. However, the model is approaching its seventh year on the market, which is an eternity in the automotive industry. Therefore, it makes sense for General Motors to retire its small SUV sooner or later.

A Replacement

The fact that the Cadillac XT4’s career in its current form is coming to an end is not particularly surprising. However, one might wonder why the manufacturer has yet to announce a replacement for its small SUV.

While the model is well-liked, its sales are decent but not exceptional. Moreover, Cadillac has been focusing heavily on electric vehicles, and eliminating a model will free up space in its lineup. This also aligns with the goal of the Fairfax plant, which is expected to soon begin production of the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt. It\'s worth noting that the Cadillac XT4 is not the only model set to bow out at GM in the coming months. The Chevrolet Malibu is also being discontinued, and since it’s also assembled at the Kansas City plant, this reinforces the idea that the focus is shifting to the Bolt.

An Affordable Cadillac Experience

I had the chance to get behind the wheel of the Cadillac XT4 for a week not too long ago, and I can tell you that the model offers a lot for its price. Starting at under $50,000, it is a luxurious and elegant vehicle. Its comfort is impressive, and it features some of the most advanced technologies in the automotive industry. In short, it’s a small SUV that I highly recommend.

With production coming to an end, now is the time to order one if it’s a model you’ve always loved.
