How Google Built-In Works in Your Chevy
How Does Google Built-In Work on Chevy Vehicles?
There are a lot of changes coming to the automotive industry. Setting the development of electric powertrains aside for a moment, the next big leap in automotive technology is how people interact with their vehicles. Chevrolet is working with Google to change the game beyond offering access to apps through the Android Auto suite. Google Built-In technology is currently only available with the 2022 Chevy Suburban and 2022 Chevy Tahoe. A couple Budds’ Chevy product experts have been learning about this technology lately, let’s see what they found.

Google Hands-Free Interface Available
Did you know that you can use voice commands with your Android-based phone to launch apps, compose texts, make phone calls, or do almost anything? That same Google Assistant technology is at the center of the capabilities offered by Google Built-In. Also, drivers will have the option of pressing a button on the steering wheel to get started.
Examples of Available Voice Commands:
- Set timers and create schedule reminders
- Adjust vehicle climate controls
- Manipulate Google-compatible lights at home or office
Does Google Built-In Work With Google Maps?
You’ve probably already been using Google Maps for navigation for a while. But, if you enter your location and just wait for the voice to tell you where to turn, you aren’t getting everything you can out of the application. When someone is using Google Maps inside the Google Built-in system, they will be able to ask about various points of interest along the way. The navigation app will make the appropriate adjustments to the route.
Additionally, Google Maps will work with General Motors’ SuperCruise to find roads that will support the semi-autonomous driving feature.
Will I Need a Wi-Fi Data Plan to Use Google Built-In?
A wireless internet connection is an available feature on most new Chevy, Buick, and GMC vehicles available at the Budds’ Chevy showroom. Many, if not most, of the features and capabilities offered by the Google Built-In system will not require a separate Wi-Fi data plan. However, some functions will require additional internet connectivity. Speak to a Budds’ Chevy product expert for more granular details.
