Spotlight: 2017 Buick Enclave

2017 buick enclave

A recent news item about the most Googled cars in the United States made us at Budds’ sit up and take notice—number one in several spots across the country was the 2017 Buick Enclave.

So… What’s all the fuss about?

Read on.

Powerful performance

For simplicity’s sake, Buick offers only a single engine and transmission combination. The engine is a 3.6-litre V-6 that makes 288 horsepower, backed by a six-speed automatic transmission. This combination can easily tow 2,000 pounds, although the trailering package is optional equipment on all three trim levels.

On the fuel efficiency side, the 2017 Enclave gets about 19L/100km in the city and 13L/100km on the highway.

The exterior—worth a long look

Interested in a little extra? The Tuscan and Sport Touring Editions add 20-inch tires, special wheel finishes and an exclusive grille. The Experience Buick package adds a moon roof and increases the standard towing capacity of 2,000 pounds to 4,500 pounds.

You might feel you don’t need a package, however—standard equipment includes:

  • 19-inch all-season black wall tires
  • Solar-ray, deep-tinted rear side, quarter panel and lift gate glass
  • HID Xenon headlights
  • Roof-mounted and chromed luggage rack side rails
  • Rear power lift gate, and more.

2017 Buick Enclave: The interior

budds-2017-buick-enclave-interiorThe interior of the 2017 Buick Enclave features leather and mahogany accents and three trim levels: Convenience, Leather and Premium.

And it boasts a huge cargo space—even with all three rows of seats in place you’ll find 23.3 cubic feet. That’s more than 650 litres!

Fold the third row down and you’ll more than double the space. If that’s still not enough, the second row also folds down… to create 115.2 cubic feet (more than 3200 litres) total.

Speaking of those rows, the 2017 Buick Enclave features adult-sized seats in all three, so when you carpool or take older children to their events, the ones “stuck” in the third seat won’t feel stuck at all. Though captain’s chairs come standard in the second row, you’ll be able to swap them out for a 60/40 bench seat if you need an eight-passenger vehicle.

The Enclave features tri-zone automatic climate control as standard equipment in all trim levels to ensure that all passengers are comfortable, especially on long road trips. A 6.5-inch touch screen, rearview camera, USB port, satellite radio, Bluetooth and smart phone integration are all also standard.

Available upgrades include navigation and a Bose sound system with 10 speakers on the Leather. The upgraded sound system is standard on the Premium trim level.

Standard equipment on all three trim levels includes:

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Remote start
  • Driver express up and down and front passenger express down power windows
  • Illuminated vanity mirrors
  • Three USB ports
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • PASS-Key III theft-deterrent system
  • Engine immobilizer with content theft alarm
  • Under-floor storage in the rear cargo area
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with mahogany accents and mounted audio and cruise controls

The steering column is manual tilt and telescopic on the Convenience and Leather trim levels, and standard power tilt and telescopic on the Premium trim level. A heated steering wheel is standard on the Leather and Premium trim levels.

Safety features—where the Enclave shines

Make no mistake—the Enclave is a vehicle you’ll feel safe in. But you don’t have to take our word for it; the experts agree, too.

For example, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rated the 2017 Buick Enclave five stars for side and front impacts, and four stars for rollovers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave the Enclave good marks, with the highest score possible in four out of five crash tests. (And in case you’re wondering, the fifth test wasn’t performed.)

The following safety equipment is standard on all three trim levels:

  • Four-wheel antilock disc brakes
  • Front passenger air bag suppression
  • Air bag system
  • Automatic occupant sensing system for the front passenger seat
  • Child presence detector for the front passenger seat
  • Daytime running lights
  • Rear parking assist
  • Rear vision camera
  • StabiliTrak Stability Control System
  • Traction control
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • HID Xenon headlights
  • Heated exterior mirrors

Forward collision alert and lane departure warning are available for the Leather trim and standard on the Premium trim. Side blind zone alert with a rear cross traffic alert is standard on the Leather and Premium trim levels.
