Spotlight: 2018 Chevy Equinox

2018 Chevy Equinox at Budds'

Have you seen the new 2018 Chevy Equinox?

Bold and exciting, the new Equinox represents a complete refresh of this popular compact crossover SUV—with a slew of features that promise to meet the needs of today’s adventurous family. No compromise on performance, comfort or style here… The Equinox has it all in spades.

Here’s a taste of what you can expect when you come to Budds’ and see us for a test-drive.

2018 Chevy Equinox: the specs

This is a shorter and lighter Equinox—Chevy has whittled about 15cm from the wheelbase and 10cm from the vehicle’s total length. The result is that the Chevy Equinox will be about 180kg lighter.

You’ll have a choice of three four-cylinder inline engines with the rebooted Equinox. Though they deliver different performance levels, the 1.5L, 2.0L and 1.6L diesel engines are all turbocharged and paired with an automatic transmission.

For example, the base engine, the 1.5L, delivers a robust 170 horsepower, enough to climb steep hills with enthusiastic gusto.

The standard front-wheel drive and fully-independent suspension provide a smooth ride and excellent handling around corners. And the six-speed automatic transmission included with the base model offers smooth and quiet shifting to provide a pleasant driving experience.

Exterior

In this redesigned Equinox, Chevy has updated the exterior to better appeal to what the company feels are the preferences of the Canadian crossover driver.

A wide, sweeping grille—defined by its sharp boldness—sets the stage for the crossover’s outside appearance. Oversized light clusters bracket the grille and lend a seamless and sweeping look to its front before tapering gently along its sides.

The streamlined look of the new 2018 Equinox continues with sleeker rear and front fenders that give the crossover a stronger silhouette. Standard 17-inch wheels—with available 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels—add to the solid stance of what’s sure to be a segment-leading crossover.

Inside the 2018 Chevy Equinox, you’ll find a spacious interior that’s well appointed with soft-touch surfaces and high-quality materials. Choose from seat material such as denim-like upholstery on the base model, or upgrade to the Premier trim for leather.

The Equinox isn’t a huge beast, but five passengers can still ride comfortably with ample leg room. There’s still plenty of cargo space too. (Even more with the rear seat folded down.)

And driving or riding, you’ll really appreciate the Equinox’s handling and suspension and its smooth, low-noise ride.

Safety

The 2018 Chevy Equinox features the latest in safety innovations. From its nose to its tail, throughout its exterior and interior, it’s evident that the safety of its occupants is of vital importance to Chevrolet’s design teams.

LED daytime running lights and projector beams are nice features that improve visibility for the driver as well as other drivers and pedestrians.

Other standard safety features include lane-keeping assistance, automatic braking and a rear-seat reminder that will let you know if you’ve forgotten a sleeping little one in the back. (Or, let’s be honest—a laptop, a bag of frozen food, or a basket of dirty laundry. We all get absent-minded more than we probably care to admit.)

One notable safety feature that will make parents of new drivers feel more comfortable is Chevrolet’s Teen Driver package. If you’ve ever said to yourself “I just wish I knew,” then this one is for you—remote monitoring and coaching of your teen’s driving habits.

This from Chev:

Teen Driver has a number of safety features, from muting audio until front seat occupants are buckled, to automatically turning on available active safety technologies like Side Blind Zone Alert, Forward Collision Alert and Front Automatic Braking. The in-vehicle report card shows how your teen performs behind the wheel so you can identify potential problem areas and coach your new driver on improvements.

Heck, with Teen Driver you’ll even be able to quickly tell how far the Equinox was driven. (“Would you care to tell me how a trip to the library took 65km?”)

One other interesting safety feature, this one for drivers of all ages: a 360-degree camera to help with challenging parking situations. Now if only everybody had one…

Technology

We don’t want to wrap up this spotlight without looking at a few bells and whistles, so let’s have a quick peek at the MyLink touchscreen—featuring instant mobile connectivity with either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Other notable standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, keyless ignition, 4G LTE WiFi, active noise cancellation and audio controls located conveniently on the steering wheel.
